Seven letters by Lucy to Spaulding tell her plans for the future, periodicals she is reading and her opinion of them, social activities at Monticello and her thoughts on Lajos Kossuth, Hungarian governor who fought for independence of that country, visited the U.S. and spoke at St. Louis in 1852. Two letters of Spaulding to Lucy are playful responses to Lucy's letters.
